One man says No and inspires many taking the dis out of disability (Русский)

▶ Watch on Storylo

Every generation produces people who refuse to accept the impossible. This is the story of one of them. As a young man, Valentin Dekul lived for the circus. The trapeze was his passion. His future seemed limitless. Until one performance changed everything. For most people, that would have been the end of the story. For Valentin Dekul, it became the beginning. Confined to bed, Valentin refused to surrender. If medicine could not help him, perhaps knowledge could. He immersed himself in anatomy, biomechanics, and rehabilitation. He became both patient and scientist. Unable to move his legs, Valentin built his own rehabilitation equipment. Using ropes, pulleys, counterweights, and incredible determination, he created a system that allowed his arms to move his legs. Hour after hour, day after day, every tiny movement mattered. Every small victory became another reason never to give up. Progress came slowly. Months became years. Many believed he was wasting his time. Valentin believed otherwise. Then, something extraordinary happened. He stood. Then, he walked. The impossible had become possible. Although he would never return to the trapeze, Valentin returned to the circus as a celebrated strongman. But his greatest performance was not lifting enormous weights. It was proving that determination could outweigh despair. People traveled from across Russia, and eventually, across the world. To learn from the man who refused to accept defeat, his rehabilitation methods inspired thousands. One visitor would carry that inspiration even further. Thousands of miles away, British sportsman David Hurd searched for hope after his friend Richard suffered life-changing injuries. His search led him to Russia. There, he discovered not simply a rehabilitation program, but a philosophy. Don't focus on disability. Focus on ability. Inspired by what he had witnessed, David returned to Britain. Sportability was born. Its purpose was never to create elite athletes. Its purpose was to restore confidence, self-esteem, adventure, friendship, and the excitement many believed had been lost forever. Its philosophy is beautifully simple. Take the dis out of disability. Focus on ability. Ask one question. If I can do this, what else can I achieve? I experienced that spirit personally when I took Sally to sportability in 1995. What struck me most was not the equipment. It was the atmosphere. Nobody focused on what people had lost. Everyone celebrated what they could still become. One young circus artist refused to accept a doctor's verdict. That decision inspired thousands. It inspired David Hurd. It inspired sportability. Today, that same determination continues changing lives across the United Kingdom. One man's determination became another person's hope, and hope became opportunity. If this story has inspired you, please help sportability continue changing lives. Valentine de Gourly Вес каждой петли 75 килограммов. Вес каждой петли 75 килограммов.
